Do you ever feel like getting your place organized and beautiful has to cost a zillion dollars? Well, it certainly can. But… it doesn’t have to! I spent a little time on the Tucson Morning Blend sharing some nifty and thrifty ideas to help you get your house in order without it looking like a Dollar Store…

So many options and styles of containers are available these days that, with a bit of shopping around, I found some super cute and useful combos perfect for all the stuff and all the spaces that are currently giving you a headache. And the priciest item I showed was a 5-piece set of bins at Target for a measly $12!
Some pro tips:
- Be creative.
- Shop around.
- Make sure items fit closely without wasted space between.
- Stacking and modular containers are beautiful things.
- Don’t limit your search to one section of the store.
- Looking for jewelry organizing? Check Out office supplies.
- Looking for office stuff? Check in kitchen section.
- Looking for toy organization? Look in laundry.
- You get the picture.
My favorite places:
- Dollar Tree
- Target (especially the discount bins at the front)
- Big Lots
- Home Goods
- The Container Store (I know, but their shoe boxes are the best deal in the store and come in many sizes – one of my favorite products of all time)
How do you make cheap stuff look like a million bucks? If you can’t find colors that match or items vary in style or pattern, then just look for shapes that work for the stuff/space you’re organizing. Then get a little crafty with spray paint or contact paper (try contact paper on a garage sale file cabinet!). Free printable labels can be downloaded or ordered on etsy. Voila! Fab-u-liciousness!
Get the biggest bang for your buck by using coupons and watching for sales at Bed Bath & Beyond and The Container Store. Shop Amazon ONLY if you can confirm the dimensions of the products to fit your space.
Here are my two big “warnings” about organizing on the cheap,.1) Most of the time, you get what you pay for, so don’t expect quality (duh) and 2) If the containers you collect are as mismatched and squappity-looking as the stuff you’re putting in them, then you won’t have the calming look or long-term effectiveness you’re doing all of this for in the first place and it will be just a big ol’ waste o’ your time, money and effort. Watch the video to see how I put a bunch of cute sets together.

YOU CAN DO THIS! Get a space that looks like a million bucks for just a few bucks. If you can’t see how to put things together or imagine out-of-the-box uses, go to Pinterest for inspiration. To get you started, here’s my Pinterest page on the topic.
